Saber Interactive is going to prohibit Space Marine 2 mods during online play soon, but the ban isn't exactly a bad thing. Not only has the team outlined exactly why mods need to go, but it's also explained how the modding community will actually get even more than before. So if you're worried you'll stop seeing SM2 mods, or that this ban means you can't use them whatsoever, I've got some good news.
While there are already some great Space Marine 2 change.
"Mods are great, and they will no doubt contribute to this game's longevity," Space Marine 2 game director Dmitriy Grigorenko writes. "However, we as developers must also ensure game stability and continuously work towards a smoother experience for all players. Our data shows that a non-negligible amount of recent server stability issues are related to mods, and that instability impacts even those s who don't have mods installed. We have also received reports that their save files were corrupted after playing alongside players with mods."
"This is why, starting with our next big update in December, mods will be prohibited from public online sessions. That means that you will no longer be able to enter a public game if you have mods installed."
Space Marine 2 mods will still be eligible in some game modes, however, as Grigorenko adds you can use them in private Operations lobbies. The server infrastructure needed to play online with your friends while using mods will remain intact, and you'll even be able to use them in custom Eternal War lobbies when that feature is added to the game as well.
Modders are also getting even more down the line as well, with "an easy entry point" for Space Marine 2's backend being added to the game alongside access to developer tools to help make mod creation easier.
