Grand Theft Auto 6 might be the main focus for Rockstar right now, but after years of waiting, Red Dead Redemption has finally made it to PC – and it's doing extremely well. 14 years since it first arrived, the groundbreaking open-world western and chronological sequel to Red Dead Redemption 2 has landed on Steam, alongside the equally excellent but comparatively underplayed spin-off Undead Nightmare. Within two hours (as of this writing) the Red Dead Redemption PC version has already pulled in thousands of players and earned near-flawless reviews. Whether you're a wily old veteran or you've never experienced the odyssey of John Marston before, RDR1 is seemingly well worth your time.
The Red Dead Redemption feels new. After the debacle with the GTA Definitive Edition back in 2022, you might have been hesitant about trying another relaunch of a Rockstar classic. Based on the early figures, however, there's nothing to worry about here.

As of this writing, it's roughly just over two hours since Red Dead Redemption first landed on Steam, and it's already got a concurrent base of 8,063. For perspective, that means RDR1, a game originally released back in 2010, has more players on Steam right now than Hades 2, God of War Ragnarok, Battlefield 1, Dying Light 2, and Starfield. It's also getting some glowing early notices. Of the 270 reviews that have been posted so far on Red Dead Redemption's Steam page, 92% are positive.
The only thing that might catch you out is the price. The relaunched version of Red Dead Redemption is $49.99 / £39.99, not that much cheaper than a brand-new, 2024 game. Nevertheless, if you want to give it a throw, just head here.
