History and strategy games go together like butter on toast. Nothing beats taking a birds-eye view of the battlefield in Total War, marveling at your utopia in Civilization, or managing the minutia of society in Victoria. In that vein, Men of War 2 s WW2 with real-time strategy like nothing else, and it's just had a huge, free update. Not only has its most-requested feature finally been added, but there are plenty of new ways to play too. Oh, and it's on sale.
The biggest addition in the new RTS game without the internet, you'll automatically start in offline mode. You can even play against AI bots in multiplayer lobbies while offline.
That's not all though, as Men of War 2's update also features eight new units. These are focused on the theme of rockets and missile launchers, so you've got myriad vehicles and troops with explosive capabilities. You'll make the best use of these new units with the 3rd Mortar Regiment, an extra battalion now in the game. Developer Best Way says the battalion has "zero logistic timers for mortars and Rocket artillery and -50% Battle rank Modifier for Mortar units, and -25% for Rocket Artillery units."
You can also use of whole host of new game mechanics in the Steel Rain update, many of which will be incredibly familiar to longtime RTS players. The single-player mode now has a game speed indicator so you can change the pace of your matches. There's even a "turbo mode," which calculates the game's simulation as fast as your PC allows, which should significantly improve the quality of your sessions. You've also got the choice between Competitive or Realism modes at the start of a single-player game, and there are plenty of smaller changes to different weapon types too.
The free Men of War 2 Steel Rain update is available now on Steam, with a special 25% off deal knocking the game down to $33.74 / £28.49 until Monday November 4. You can find it on Steam here.
