2023 was one of the best years for videogames we've ever had. Between Hi-Fi Rush, Final Fantasy 16, Diablo 4, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Alan Wake 2, and Baldur's Gate 3, it felt like every genre was covered with an excellent experience to call its own. Having so many bangers released back to back did mean that plenty of perfectly fine games struggled to find an audience, though, and Immortals of Aveum was one of them. If you fancy some magical FPS action in your life, then, now's the time to give the game a shot. It's dirt cheap and Denuvo has been quietly removed.
FPS game, and that means it does things differently. Long gone are the Super Shotguns of Doom and Gordan Freeman's Gravity Gun, as you instead need to utilize spells in combat. These come in offensive and defensive forms, and are divided into red, blue, or green depending on how they're used. Back in 2023 this didn't set the shooter scene on fire, but that doesn't mean you should it up entirely.

Now, you can snag Immortals of Aveum at its lowest-ever price on Valve's platform, and Denuvo also looks to have been removed. SteamDB shows that an update on Friday February 7 removed the third party DRM tool, suggesting it has been taken out of the game. I even checked the Steam page in the Wayback Machine, and can confirm that a text box on the front end mentioning Denuvo is now gone too.
Denuvo is a form of DRM (digital rights management) technology designed to prevent piracy. However, some players blame it for causing performance issues. Denuvo product manager Andreas Ullmann has also addressed the product's reputation, saying that the makers of Denuvo are tired of the "toxicity" around it.
Immortals of Aveum no longer has Denuvo, and you can grab the game at 85% off until Monday February 10 so expect to pay $8.99 / £7.49 until then. There's also a free demo you can try. The game is on Valve's platform here.
