Hollow Knight Silksong will be playable in September, with one big limitation

Hollow Knight Silksong will be playable in September as part of an Australian museum exhibit, as we await news of the full release date.

We might not have an exact launch date yet, but we now have confirmation that Hollow Knight Silksong will be playable in September 2025. There's just one fairly big catch; you might have to go to Australia to try it. The long-awaited Team Cherry action platformer is set to make an appearance in the developer's home country later this year, making the possibility that we'll finally see the full release in 2025 feel more real than ever.

The Hollow Knight Silksong will be playable during an exhibition called Game Worlds.

Speaking to IGN, ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell state, "Since Hollow Knight Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated games on the planet, and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centerpiece of Game Worlds in September."

"From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet's different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game's most challenging boss fights – and, of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design," the pair continue. "We're so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you."

Whether that means the game will already be out by then, or if this might be a tantalizing preview that will see desperate fans queuing up for plane tickets to Australia, remains to be seen. As someone who loves the country just as much as I do the original Hollow Knight, it certainly sounds like an excellent excuse for a visit.

While we wait on Silksong and other best indie games you can play right now.
