Character's favorite gifts check all three of their likes, but other gifts may actually raise their friendship faster. We'll list the best gifts for each character below. If you're short of the best gifts, plenty of other items that meet your friends' requirements still increase your friendship. to give each friend three gifts a day to make the most of your daily cap.
If you really need to increase your friendship with a specific character, you can also give them a Friendship Blossom, allowing you to gift that friend an additional three gifts that day. Similarly, a Friendship Bouquet can be used to reset all characters' daily gift cap.
Top tip: If you're good enough friends with Hello Kitty, ask her to come with you when you craft food recipes and give gifts, as she can increase the number of items you cook and increases friendship XP from gift giving by 10%. When crafting items, ask Chococat to you as he can increase your chance of gaining an additional item from the workbench.

My Melody gift guide

To obtain Sakura, you must first unlock Merry Meadow by completing the Revive the Oasis and Curious Caverns quests upon reaching friendship level 11 with My Melody.
Chococat gift guide

To unlock the recipe for Chococat's favorite gift, you must reach level three with Tophat, which can only be done after reaching and unlocking Icy Peaks. A good value alternative both before and after you've unlocked the recipe is Ancient Inventions, as it's much cheaper at only one less friendship value.
Tuxedosam gift guide
The Designer Island Doll is unlocked after by reaching friendship level 16 with My Melody, but you can also obtain one by crafting one of each of the other dolls: Aquatic, Rocky, Tropical, Swampy, and Volcanic.
Badtz-maru gift guide

The pizza oven is located on Hothead Island, and is unlocked by making friends with Retsuko. It requires dough, which can be obtained by giving gifts to Retsuko. While the Quattro Formaggi pizza provides a slightly higher friendship increase, Badtz-maru's best gift is still the Ultimate Joke Pizza in of value and return.

The Soda machine is located on Gemstone Island, and requires Fizzy Crystals to operate. These are obtained by riding the minecart through Gemstone Mountain, and using a crafting bench to turn Fizzy Ore into crystals.

The espresso machine is located in the Comedy Club, which can only be reached once you have crafted the Snorkel. Another coffee machine is located in the cafe, and can be used once you have reached friendship level 11 with Hangyodon. Cinnamoroll is a great example of choosing the right gift, as the Spicy Pumpkin Latte has a far higher friendship value than his favorite gift and is much more affordable.

The Volcanic Guitar crafting plans are unlocked once you have reached friendship level 4 with Tophat, meaning you need to reach Icy Peaks before you can give Retsuko her favorite gift.

Once you discover Cloud Island and unlock Lala and Kiki as friends, it can be quite a slow process figuring out their favorite gifts and leveling up their friendships.
