Every time I come back to Halo Infinite, I'm reminded how good it feels to play. Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries) nails the sense of weight and movement, and the Spartan power fantasy across the entire experience, but it's especially noticeable in Infinite's multiplayer. The breadth of tools at your disposal makes it one of the best online sandboxes around, and the latest update is a big one. Even with Halo's Unreal Engine future looking incredibly bright, now's the time to give Infinite another shot.
multiplayer game deserves, and it presents all-new ways to play.
For starters, you've got the Mutilator. Halo Studios has gone into the lab with this one, and combined the double-barreled shotgun and Gravity Hammer into a devastating new weapon. It hits incredibly hard, with massive damage and spread from every single shot. You can unload one shot with standard fire, or switch to the alt-fire mode to hit twice as much. When you're out of ammo, though, don't worry about reloading, and just smack your opponent across the head for extra damage.
If you want to take the new weapon for a spin yourself, your best bet is in the Mutilator Madness game mode. A variation of Juggernaut, where one player has a Mutilator and gains points for every kill with it, you're forced to think on your feet. You need to kill the juggernaut to get the Mutilator for yourself, but that's easier said than done when the weapon hits like a freight train.

If you'd rather work with other players instead of against them, however, the new Firefight: Battle of the Academy is for you. The linear experience is filled with defensive maneuvers, sabotage, and some of the hardest-hitting enemies in all of Halo Infinite. If, like me, you're a sucker for intense PvE experiences with friends, this newest iteration of firefight is definitely for you.
You can also get involved with both the free and versions of the new operation , giving you new armor sets, coatings, and ways to deck out your Spartan. If you before Saturday May 31, you'll also get free customization bundles to celebrate Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and Mental Health Awareness Month.
If you've been waiting for a reason to jump back into Halo Infinite, this is it. Granted, this isn't a huge update, but Halo Studios has been busy with the series' future for some time now, so it's understandable that Infinite is starting to take a backseat. That said, the Mutilator alone opens up plenty of new gameplay opportunities, and I'm very excited to try it for myself.
