Space strategy game Galactic Civilizations 4 is ramping up soon with the introduction of its next expansion. First launched in October 2023, the latest entry in the long-running series of interstellar 4X games is set to get its next paid DLC in February, which will bring a wealth of new content including a distinct tech tree for Cybernetic civilizations. Before that, however, a free update out today introduces plenty of welcome upgrades, polishing, and balance changes.

The Arnor's unfinished projects will present you with new crisis events in the late game, which will put your leadership skills to the test as their effects ripple across the galaxy. To help you out, a new tech tree has been introduced for the Cybernetic phenotype that offers exclusive planetary improvements, ship components, and events. There's also an enhanced version of the space game's civilization creator that gives you the ability to select a specific tech tree, making it easier to create a truly unique civ.
If you can't wait until the expansion arrives to jump back in, you're in luck – Galactic Civilizations 4 update 2.94 is out today. The new patch overhauls map generation, offering improved player placement and a fog of war system. Balance changes have been implemented for combat, citizen specialities, colonization and more, and the planet, ship designer, and shipyard menus have been given a fresh coat of paint to make them easier to navigate.
Galactic Civilizations 4 DLC Tales of The Arnor launches Thursday February 27, priced at $12.99 / £10.99. It will also be available in the expansion bundle. You can pre-purchase it here. Free Galactic Civilizations 4 update 2.94 launches Thursday January 23.
