Frogwares is no stranger to the horrifying realms of R'lyeh, having previously developed the excellent Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened, which pitted the consulting detective against a cult of Cthulhu, but now the adventure game developer is going all in, developing Call of Cthulhu.
Whether it's based on Lovecraft's classic short story or is a title that more broadly deals with the Cthulhu mythos – perhaps inspired by the enduring tabletop game of the same name – is not clear, and all we've got to go on is some haunting, lovely concept art.
My hope is for a mix of adventure and survival horror, playing to the strengths of both the developer and the source material – something in the vein of Amnesia, perhaps? Certainly I'd love to see sanity be a mechanic, as the loss of the mind is a consistent aspect of the Cthulhu mythos.
