What E3 2020 games are we most excited about? Now the exhibitor list has been announced, we can take a candid guess at what games we'll likely see at one of the biggest gaming events of the year.
There's no denying E3 2019 was something of a dud for PC releases and new games in general. Most of Ubisoft's E3 2019 announcements have been delayed until later in 2020, Xbox had very little to display in of shiny new triple-A releases, and Sony decided to duck out of the show altogether. Square Enix and Bethesda had a couple of big reveals, but Capcom and Konami only had a few small updates to offer.
Maybe that's just not how game releases work nowadays, with teasers dropping through cryptic tweets and smaller shows, in an industry rife with leaks. We had a few surprise reveals in 2019, including the announcement of Half-Life: Alyx and a Resident Evil 3 remake. So, we're always kept on our toes when it comes to new games, but, with some big names including Activision, Bethesda, and Warner Bros gracing the E3 arena, things are about to get interesting. Here's all the E3 2020 games we hope to see at this year's expo.
Potential E3 2020 games:
Dragon Age 4
We've written a lot about BioWare recently ended all seasonal updates for the game, acknowledging that Anthem needs a more substantial reinvention than just an update or expansion. Could we potentially see Anthem 2.0 at E3 2020?
Battlefield 6
When DICE unveiled Battlefield 5 the studio was pretty keen to point out that they were going to leave it a little longer before releasing the next mainline entry in the next full Battlefield release is due in the fiscal year 2022. This means that the Battlefield 6 release date could be as early as summer, 2021, which makes E3 2020 the ideal place to make that announcement.
New Assassin's Creed
Assassin's Creed Ragnarok has been rumoured for years, so perhaps we'll finally get some confirmation of it at E3 2020.
Starfield
Bethesda is guilty of showing off flashy cinematics for games and then saying nothing about them for several years. So, after several years of hearing almost nothing about Starfield, perhaps we'll finally… er, hear something about Starfield. Given Starfield has been confirmed for next-gen consoles, which are set to be wheeled out at E3 2020, there's a good chance Bethesda will show something more than the logo.
Elder Scrolls 6
The Elder Scrolls 6 release date obviously still a long way off, but much like Starfield, there's a chance Bethesda has been holding out for the next-gen console reveal to give us a proper look at the next Elder Scrolls game.
Beyond Good & Evil 2
It's been a while since Ubisoft made a big deal about Beyond Good & Evil 2, so we're well overdue a shiny new gameplay showcase with a random celebrity appearance/shameless plug. Fingers crossed we'll get exactly that during E3 2020.
GTA 6
GTA 5 has been around for seven years, so we're probably still a couple of years away from the GTA 6 release date. Still, two years is well within the limits of an E3 teaser. There's also the fact that GTA 5 released just ahead of the PS4, so if next-gen consoles are E3 2020 bound then we should hear something official.
Silent Hill
Although Konami hasn't been confirmed as an E3 participant, that doesn't mean a new Silent Hill game isn't on the way. Following recent rumours that Konami is working on a Silent Hill game, scary horror games can be with his own studio, wouldn't it be great if he rocked up and revealed a Kojima Productions equivalent to the survival horror series?
Destiny 3
With Overwatch 2 now confirmed it's only a matter of time before some other bright spark jumps on the quasi-sequel bandwagon and announces a season as a full-blown sequel.
Lord of the Rings
Middle-earth: Shadow of War released three years ago now, and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor three years before that. The nemesis system was revolutionary when the first in the game launched in 2014, but the second time around it slightly lacked anything innovative, apart from riding dragons – that was pretty cool. If we're hopeful, there's so much of Tolkien's lore that remains untouched that a new Lord of the Rings game could explore corners of Middle-earth and potentially expand into a new genre – orc battle royale, anyone? On second thought, let's not give Warner Bros any silly ideas.
Batman
As Warner Bros are confirmed to be attending E3, it might not just be a new Lord of the Rings game they have up their sleeve. Warner Bros Montreal posted cryptic images on social media teasing a possible new Batman game earlier this year. If a Batman game is on the way, fans are speculating it could feature the Court of Owls, a mysterious group operating in Gotham's wealthy society, full of masked assassins and hushed secrets.
