Dying Light turns 10 and celebrates by reviving some of its best in-game events

To commemorate this major milestone for the zombie game franchise, both Dying Light and Dying Light 2 are getting big new updates.

How the time flies, eh? It really doesn't feel like a decade since Dying Light came out, putting some new spins on the zombie game formula with its slick parkour movement and day-night cycle that made it a real gauntlet when the sun went down. In celebration of its tenth birthday, developer Techland is giving Dying Light a surprise update that further enhances the game's visuals and its soundtrack. It's also bringing back some of fans' favorite in-game events for a four-week fiesta.

While they're not exactly award-scooping, critically acclaimed Dying Light The Beast release date arrives in the summer. For now though, the focus is on celebrating that milestone anniversary of the first game, and the series as a whole.

Both Dying Light and Dying Light 2 will receive free updates very soon, with the original game getting some improvements to its graphics and a remastered soundtrack that also has some new tracks from composer Pawel Blaszczak. Over the next four weeks, players can also relive some of the game's best events. Things kick off today with Hypermode (plus some double XP) before Low Gravity, Super-Crane, and Viral Rush arrive in the following weeks.

Dying Light: A roap of content arriving in Dying Light and Dying Light 2 for its 10th Anniversary event

Over in Dying Light 2, some special items from the first game are being added as Pilgrim Outpost bounty rewards. Towards the end of this month-long celebration, its co-op roguelike mode, Tower Raid, will also be fully and permanently added to the game. Some more improvements to DL2's prologue are also arriving with its big free update.

A roap looking ahead to the rest of 2025 also details some of the future changes coming to Dying Light 2, including a new weapon class, new Tower Raid characters, and community map .

If you're a lover of stats, Techland has also released a video going over some ridiculous numbers that have been accrued by the 45 million people that have played either or both games. For example, if you're ever grilled with some gaming trivia and asked the question 'how many zombies have been killed in total across Dying Light and Dying Light 2?' you can now confidently reply: '75,926,162,940.' Once you've memorized that number, of course… Techland also reveals that over 30 billion limbs have been severed, 20 billion heads have been removed, and that players have collectively died over 3 billion times.
