Devil May Cry 5 is surging on Steam, and it's the price of my lunch

The entire DMC series is currently on sale on Steam, bringing Devil May Cry 5 down to the price of lunch, and its player count is surging.

Last night I decided to 2013's DmC: Devil May Cry, one of my favorite action-adventure games ever made. Reviewing South of Midnight whet my appetite for more hacking and slashing, so why not revisit the series that introduced me to the genre – the anime literally just dropped, can you blame me? But, while DmC controversially remains my favorite of the series, Devil May Cry 5 has seen its player count spike overnight, likely a result of the fact that it's currently the same price as the coffee and cake I just ordered for lunch.

Devil May Cry 5 follows dual protagonists Dante and Nero, who have been enlisted by the mysterious V to help take down the Demon King, Urizen. A twisted version of Dante's twin brother Vergil, Urizen makes Mundus look relatively tame, and that's saying something.

Currently the latest installment in the long-running demon-slaying saga, the action-adventure game sits at a solid 87 on Metacritic and an impressive 96% on Steam across all of its reviews, earning it the much-coveted 'overwhelmingly positive' status. Not bad at all.

Following Netflix's Devil May Cry anime's release on Thursday April 3, the entire DMC franchise is on sale, with DMC 5 and its Vergil DLC available for just $7.49 / £5.99 (the deluxe edition with the same DLC clocks in at $9.99 / £7.99). As someone who's just racked up a $13 / £10 bill getting herself a Starbucks for her lunch, I can tell you now that DMC 5 is by far the superior purchase.

As a result, the game's player count has spiked, going from an average of 2,500 concurrents up to a peak of 6,809 overnight. While that doesn't come close to beating out its launch stats (88,894) it's nothing to smirk at.

The rest of the series has also seen a colossal price cut, with the HD collection (which includes DMC 1 through 3) available for $9.89 / £8.24, the special edition of DMC 4 (the base version was retired from Steam in 2024) down to $7.49 / £5.99, and, my absolute favorite, DmC: Devil May Cry, also available for $7.49 / £5.99.

Steam's Devil My Cry sale ends on Wednesday April 16. You'll be able to pick up all of these deals before then, and I really recommend that you do. Starbucks is temporary, Dante is forever.
