Paradox Interactive has finally launched Crusader Kings 3's newest DLC, Khans of the Steppe, and it offers you entirely new ways to rule and conquer. Casting you as a leader of the Eurasian steppe during a time of great upheaval, you can utilize an array of brand-new nomadic-inspired mechanics to take over the medieval world. If you're tired of CK3's typical loop and instead want to accumulate herds, butcher your enemies, and migrate across the land, now you can.
As you might expect, grand strategy game, you jump into the conquering shoes of Temüjin, better known as the incredibly brutal Genghis Khan. You can experience new activities, traditions, Mongolian succession, and plenty of original mechanics.
Your journey begins with the new nomadic governmental style. istration revolves around constantly moving your people, as you rule through migration to keep the population mobile and resilient. You'll need to keep increasing your dominance to make sure your subjects are obedient, otherwise your tribe can crumble from within before you've had a chance to change history.

Your evolving relationship with your people is also heavily tied to the new tributaries system, where alliances and resources take on a new meaning. Tributaries are a much more flexible alternative to vassalage, giving unique benefits to both you and your followers while they maintain independence. Ruling is much more fluid in Khans of the Steppe, as not only do your people enjoy a sense of freedom, but you need to constantly be on the move.
This is especially true thanks to CK3's steppe season system, which changes the fertility of different lands over time. You can't just set up in an area rich in a specific resource, because sooner or later the seasons will change and you'll be left in the lurch. With Khans of the Steppe, Paradox is forcing you to stay on the move and play like a true nomad, and it's a breath of fresh air.
If you can manage to stay on the move, keep your people in line with an iron fist, and make the most of the tributaries, you can hopefully become the 'Scourge of God.' As an instrument of divine will, you'll be successfully conquering the entire known world and amassing an even greater herd than any real-world Khans could ever muster.
Crusader Kings 3: Khans of the Steppe is available now, and it'll cost you $19.99 / £16.75. You can also play it as part of CK3 chapter four. Just head here.
