The four-month Borderlands DLC drought is over: the Pre-Sequel has a season

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel has the whiff of expanded DLC about it. But like some sort of self-replicating moon, this standalone adventure in the Borderlands 2 engine will spawn yet more zany-shooter adventures.

The Pre-Sequel season is good for four pieces of post-launch DLC at a discount, 2K have announced.

2K say we can expect new characters, challenges, missions and experiences from The Pre-Sequel's DLC. Each pack will cost $9.99 individually, and the Season will sell for $39.99.

The won't include the Shock Drop Slaughter Pit arena DLC, which comes as a pre-order bonus.

The main game is set in the space between Borderlands 1 and 2, and finds sometime villain Handsome Jack leading four new playable characters, Claptrap included, to Pandora's moon.

That places no stricture on the setting of the DLC, though – previous efforts from Gearbox have encomed variations on Romeo and Juliet and fantasy tabletop RPGs.

Borderlands has an overstuffed history of DLC, of course. Gearbox promised five packs in Borderlands 2's season – and then released another six once the had expired.

Publishers 2K seem particularly keen on the idea, too. They even managed to squeeze BioShock Infinite DLC out of Irrational Games, though Levine and friends took a year over it and accidentally wound up with the best game they'd made in yonks: Burial at Sea Part Two.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is due on PC on October 17. Will it turn you lunatic?

Cheers, CVG.
