Blue Prince chess puzzle solution

Some way through this challenging puzzle game, you might have discovered the secret Blue Prince chessboard, and here’s what to do with it.

How do you solve the Blue Prince chess puzzle? If you've ventured into the early Mount Holly rooms, you'll have discovered a secret room containing a chessboard and six chess pieces. You can move these pieces, but where should you put them?

A recurring theme throughout the Blue Prince safe codes if you're searching for easy answers.

How to solve the Blue Prince chess puzzle

To uncover the secret of the chessboard, you must find which room each piece can be found in and place each of the six pieces on the square corresponding to that room's place in the current day's draft.

Looking at the list below, if the chapel is in the bottom right-hand corner of your draft, the bishop should be placed in the bottom right-hand square since a large bishop piece can be found in the chapel.

The pawn is the outlier, as there are many rooms that this can relate to. As such, place the other pieces first, then move the pawn. You'll know the piece is in the right place when the square it's on lights up. If you've drafted multiple rooms for any piece, for example, the nook, conservatory, and vault, simply try each option until one lights up.

The room locations for each chess piece are:

  • Bishop – chapel, attic
  • Knight – observatory, security, armory
  • Rook – nook, conservatory, vault
  • King – office
  • Queen – study

Provided you have one room drafted for each of the above pieces, you can head down to the precipice to unlock the secret behind the chessboard. Place each piece in its corresponding place, and a greater secret should unfold in front of you.

You're given a choice, and while we won't spoil it, we can tell you that you can change your mind by completing the puzzle again another day. Many of the game's puzzles aren't essential for locating the 46th room, and the Blue Prince chessboard is one of them. However, like many others, it provides an incredibly helpful boost.
